Inner Glow Superfoods Inc. aims to share the delicious and nutritious açaí with Canadians. We aim to improve the quality of life of our customers, providing them with healthy foods that are packed with antioxidants and nutrients. We will also share knowledge about the positive benefits of reducing sugar intake, especially for people with digestive health concerns. We are proudly Canadian owned and operated, selling frozen açaí in Ontario, Canada.

Inner Glow Superfood Inc's first product launch is frozen açaí purée, sustainably sourced from the Amazon region of Brazil. If you haven’t yet heard of or tried this superfood, it is delicious, a source of antioxidants and healthy fats, and naturally low in sugars. Frozen açaí purée is most often used to create superfood-packed açaí smoothie bowls, but can also be used used to make a range of innovative recipes like beverages, desserts, jams and even savoury dishes. It is the ideal fruit for ketogenic, diabetic and other low carb diets, as one serving has 0g of net carbs and no sugars.

We have built a partnership in the community where our product is cultivated in Brazil. Each fruit is hand picked and frozen within 24 hours to seal in the flavour and the nutrients. Ensuring the demand for açaí berries is maintained and increased in North America is helping to preserve the Amazon rainforest and to provide a sustainable livelihood opportunity for traditionally isolated communities.

About our Açaí

What is Açaí?

Açai is a berry grown in the Amazon Rainforest of Brazil. It is known as one of the world's greatest superfoods, and is packed with essential vitamins and minerals, healthy fats and fibre. Uniquely, it is one of the only fruits that is naturally sugar free, making it ideal for ketogenic and other low carb dieters. In fact, one serving contains 0g of net carbs! Our product is certified organic, non-GMO and kosher, and contains no added sugar or artificial ingredients. Inner Glow Superfood's açaí purée comes from berries that are handpicked by local farmers in the heart of the Amazon rainforest of Brazil. It is helping to support livelihood opportunities for traditionally isolated communities, and is also helping to preserve the rainforest by increasing the demand for sustainable Amazonian resources. Açaí berries are picked from the açaí palm tree, which can grow to be up to 25 metres high. There are two harvesting seasons for the fruit each year. In Brazil açaí farmers are called peconheiros because they use an artisanal tool called a peconha, which is made out of leaves. Interestingly, this tool is typically used by their feet to pick the berries. Peconheiros live in small farming villages along the banks of the Amazon river where the berries are picked. Then, the berries are transferred by river to larger processing plants for pasteurization. After being pasteurized they are immediately frozen into purées or freeze-dried into powder. This process is completed within 24 hours of the berries being picked in order to lock in nutrients for optimal quality.

Our Founder

Our Founder, Kat first fell in love with açaí while interning with a sustainable development organization in Brazil back in 2012. At that time, she was eating açaí on the daily! When she returned to Canada she was disappointed as the delicious berry wasn't anywhere to be found. In 2017 Kat decided to start a socially responsible company that would be the main provider of açaí in Canada. Soon thereafter, Inner Glow Superfoods Inc. was born!

Kat has struggled with digestive health issues for most of her adult life. Growing up in rural Ontario, she had access to her family’s garden so she often ate nutritious foods straight from the soil. She switched to less healthy alternatives after she moved to Toronto for school. Not surprisingly, Kat ran into health problems in her mid twenties. At that time she struggled to find the answers by visiting doctors. She began to do lots of reading and learn for herself about the powerful healing qualities of food for overall wellbeing. Her journey led her to eat more mindfully as she learned what types of foods were the biggest triggers of her digestive symptoms. Most importantly, she has cut down on all forms of sugar – even natural ones found in fruits and honey.

By eating more mindfully, Kat’s energy, digestion, and overall quality of life has improved. She wants to share this lesson with fellow Canadians who may be struggling with their own health issues, and offer them an alternative fruit that is naturally sugar free. Globally, she aims to build a social enterprise that will empower local farmers in the Amazon region of Brazil to increase their financial wellbeing, and reduce the impact of climate change by helping to preserve the rainforest.

Kat has a Master’s degree in Public and International Affairs from York University in Toronto. She has experience working and volunteering across Africa, Latin America, the United Kingdom, and with Albertan and Canadian governments. Her experience spans sustainable development, public policy, international relations and science & innovation diplomacy.
